Frequently Asked Questions

I have a cat, can I still use Mutty?

While Mutty is definitely geared more towards dogs, there are plenty of cats and other animals on Mutty. All pets are welcome!

I have more than one dog, does that work with Mutty?

Yes! You can have several dogs on Mutty. When you make a post you can choose which dog(s) you're posting for.

I coparent my dog with my friend/family/partner/spouse. Can they also have a Mutty account?

Yes! Mutty not only allows one human to have many dogs, but for a dog to have many humans. You can manage the level of access each human has too. “Parent” is the highest level where you can post on their behalf, and manage their profile. “Friends” and “Caregivers” can post on behalf of a dog, but can't edit their profile.

To assign another human to a dog, navigate to Dogs > [Your Dog] > Humans and find the other human's username. You may have to press “Load from contacts” to find the right username.

How do I find friends?

Mutty is unlike most social media apps where we encourage you to meet in person. So, you can't search for someone you don't already know. However, you can use the contacts on your phone to find other people with Mutty accounts.

Otherwise, the main way to make friends on Mutty is to meet in person and scan the QR code.

Can I post videos of my dog?

Not yet! That feature is coming soon though! Videos take up a lot of bandwidth and processing power, so we wanted to make sure we do it right before releasing that feature.

How does broadcasting my location work?

When you create a post, you can choose to attach a location. Generally, people don't actually use their current location, but instead choose a local dog park or something like that where they will be going. The coordinates of whatever location you've chosen get saved with the post. Also, Mutty will save a “hash” of the region you selected. This is a block of coordinates about a square mile in size. This is saved to give you alerts when your dog friends are in the area. It's not your exact location, and your exact location cannot be determined from the hash. To put it simply, we “round” the decimal places on your exact coordinates, so we can give you updates, but your exact location is never known.

Here at Mutty, we take your privacy seriously, so your location is only collected with your explicit consent by selecting a location with your post.
